The timber pest inspection includes a thorough comprehensive inspection conducted to Australian standards 4349.9-2010.
We only use the most reputable inspectors in the local industry. Premier Building Reports has undertaken in excess of 10,000 building reports and have come across a vast array of inspectors. Trust us, we know the best and most thorough Pest Inspectors and would not associate with anyone but the best. PLEASE NOTE, we only use fit, agile and motivated inspectors. This is a very important part of being able to access those difficult areas and provide an accurate report. All accessible areas will be inspected for termite activity past or present.
The areas inspected include exposed timbers, roof voids, and subfloor areas including decks, inside and outside of the building, the site fences, outbuildings, retaining walls trees, stumps and gardens.
The current Australian Standard AS4349.3 equipment recommended for termite inspection is a moisture meter and a sound tapping device, however our inspector carries thermal imaging equipment and borescopes also.
Please keep in mind the thermal imaging camera is one tool in a large collection for detecting defects in residential and commercial buildings.
There a numerous myths on the “Thermal imaging camera” and its place in the inspection process. Here are just a few –
- The camera is not a moisture meter and never has been.
- The camera cannot see below the surface of a target.
- The camera cannot be relied on to detect structural damage to timbers.
- The camera cannot locate individual termites.

| How does thermal imaging detect termites? Just think of a large infestation of termites behind your wall, they will be producing a large amount of heat behind your plaster wallThermal imaging cameras detect thermal energy similar to the way your eye detects light. All objects have a certain temperature and emit waves of energy called infrared radiation. The hotter the object, the more energy waves are emitted. The infrared camera then translates these energy waves into a view-able image. |
Moisture meters are hand-held devices that monitor the percentage of moisture in different materials. These type of meters are a valuable aid in detecting shower/ plumbing leaks, termite infestation(termites are attracted to moisture) and dampness in walls, floors & ceilings. They can locate problems before manifesting into significant concerns. |
